Meet Angela Olson, BikeMN’s new Education Director

I’m Angela Olson, and I am so excited to join BikeMN as the Education Director! I’m looking forward to working with the team to continue delivering quality cycling education across Minnesota, including our Walk! Bike! Fun! and Learn to Ride programs.

I’ve commuted via bicycle since I moved to Minneapolis to attend college in 2005 when my grandpa gifted me a 1987 yellow Schwinn mountain bike. I learned a lot about basic care and maintenance of my bike through a lot of trial and error, as well as learning how to advocate for myself and other cyclists sharing the road. For a few years, I lived in Brooklyn, NY where I worked as a service writer, sales associate, and basic mechanic at a bike shop. At that shop, I developed basic maintenance and cycling workshops for Women, Trans, and Femme riders, as well as family-centered rides through the city.

Professionally, I have been an educator in Minneapolis for nearly fifteen years, working with schools, arts, and nonprofit organizations. I freelanced for much of that time, but most recently, I worked full time in the education department at a museum, working with youth, families, and adult learners. While I have loved engaging in arts education, this role at BikeMN is a perfect marriage of my professional experience and my personal interest.

I live in south Minneapolis with my dog, Princess Leia. I love learning about new movies, baking, and traveling. I can’t wait to learn from and work with my colleagues and neighbors here at BikeMN!
